Here's something that failed in original intent, but ultimately came out well enough for me to use here.
I originally got a wild artistic hair up my butt to do Katsu Shintaro as Zatoichi in Ukyio-e style, because I wanted to get all clever and stuff and the character is originally from Edo period Japan, which Ukyio-e is most strongly associated with/had its 'heyday' during. Obviously this completely failed in everything other than *maybe* aspects of the coloring; once again I can't duplicate another art style if my life depended on it, lol.
HOWEVER: Some notes.
1) Katsushin might well be the hardest person in the world to draw, like, ever, LOL, or at least for me, anyway. I used literally seven different photographic sources overall and it took *hours*; I've never had such a challenge in getting a likeness, though I'm told it's overall effective *whew*.
2) Even though it doesn't look a thing like Ukyio-e I still like it, hence I kept it.
3) A good deal of this comes out of a more than mild resentment that Katsu-San's Zatoichi tends to be forgotten in present times in lieu of the new Takeshi Kitano film. This will not do.
Hell if I know how long the whole thing took, lol, I'd have to say in excess of 6-7 hours. *dead* x.x
You could kall Katsushin a childhood hero of mine. He's very important to me.

Very nice, I like the pose, and the look in his eyes. I also like the color, it fits very well. All in all great image for Zatoichi.
